Welcome to Sacred Heart’s 2009 Pack-a-Back Program!
This August Sacred Heart will distribute back-to-school backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies to 1500 children from local, low-income families.
During these challenging times we realize that this is an audacious goal. The need for this critical assistance is greater now than ever and resources are becoming increasingly scarce. However, with the support of groups and individuals like you, we are confident that the families that come to us in their hour of need will receive the tools that will eventually lead them to lives free from poverty.
Our Goal: 1500 new backpacks filled with school supplies for students in grades K-12
Make a Financial Contribution
You can donate directly to Sacred Heart Community Service, and we will buy the backpacks for you.
- One new, completely-filled backpack costs us $60
- Complete backpacks for a family with 3 school-age children costs $180
- An entire classroom of complete backpacks costs $1500

Donate Backpacks & School Supplies
We will put together 5 types of backpacks, and we hope you or your group can help us gather all the items. Below (link to backpack details), you will see the items we need for each age group.
To help us meet our goal of 1500 filled backpacks, multiply your efforts by organizing a drive.
MOTIVATE your organization with the knowledge that together you can provide children the opportunity to rise above poverty.
PROVIDE your organization the grade-appropriate backpack inventory list from the Pack-a-Back brochure.
CHALLENGE your organization to set a goal for how many backpacks you will collect and fill—then go out and beat your goal!
CELEBRATE your organization’s achievement by gathering all the backpacks together and bringing them to Sacred Heart by 3:00PM on Friday, August 7th.

- The Pack-a-Back brochure: “Everything you need to know about our 2009 Pack-a-Back program, including an inventory of the supplies needed for each grade level.”
- Sample invitation letter: “Invite your friends and colleagues to get involved.”
- Sample thank you letter: “Thank your friends and colleagues for their involvement.”
- Donation receipt : “Provide donors with a receipt for their tax-deductable donations—both financial and in-kind.”

We are collecting backpacks for 5 different age groups:

3rd & 4th Grade
5th & 6th Grade
7th to 12th Grade
If the item is in bold , it is particularly important for that age.Please provide gift cards from local shoe retailers as indicated below.
