Adult Education
One morning, a computer
class student, Carmen, tapped the Director of our education programs on the shoulder
to come to the computer lab to see the PowerPoint presentation she had created.
She was so proud of what she had learned and told our staff member that she registered
for DeAnza College in the fall. Carmen attributed her desire to learn to our classes
at SHCS. Now, she wants to have a career! Did you know? - English-as-a-Second
Language (ESL) classes are offered in the morning and evening. These are multi-level
classes that assist beginning students to advanced students.
- Computer
classes are for English-speaking students and teach keyboarding, word processing,
spreadsheet, and database programs. Non-English speaking students are encouraged
to begin in our English-as-a-Second Language class. We have over 20 computers
in our computer lab. The students will learn valuable office skills and job training so that they are ready to find employment. Visit the office skills website at http://officeskills.org to learn more about the curriculum taught in the computer classes.
- Parent Education classes help parents understand
the stages of children's development and discover alternatives to physical punishment.
This program focuses on infants/toddlers and pre-school age children. The parents
are encouraged to attend a SHCS sponsored support group.
