JobLink
Sandra Lopez felt depressed
and discouraged before coming to JobLink. "I was recently laid-off and was
without work for approximately five months," she said. Like many unemployed
San Jose residents who come to JobLink Sandra appeared dimly hopeful. She came
to JobLink because she had received a Sacred Heart Community Service flyer with
information on how to contact employers listed in JobLink's Area. Sandra wasted
little time and immediately attended mandatory Orientation and Job-search Workshops.
Next she set up an appointment with a JobLink mentor who reviewed and typed her
resume. With copies of resume in hand Sandra proceeded to use JobLink's telephones
to call employers. She faxed and emailed her resumes. Within three weeks she had
secured a job at a prestigious company in San Jose. Sandra credits our voicemail
service with helping her tremendously since she was without a reliable phone.
The voicemail made it possible for her to maintain contact with employers. She
complements our Job-search coaches who shared several interviewing tips some of
which helped her get the job. With jubilation we celebrate Sandra's two
months job retention and her current earnings of $19.00 per hour. Sandra urges
other job-seekers to "never give up, no matter what. Life comes to light
once again when your goal is reached. Set clear goals, work at them daily, don't
hold back. There are great people ready to help at Sacred Heart Community Service.
